MEDICAL RESIDENCY CONSULTING
FAQS
You've Got Questions, I’ve Got Answers
WHERE DO YOU HOLD YOUR TEACHING SESSIONS?
All teaching and lessons are held virtually through Zoom.
DO YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC TEACHING QUALIFICATION?
I have been tutoring students on Wyzant for the past four years. During this time, I have helped numerous students pass their Step 1, 2, and 3 exams and achieve success in medical school. I have also provided guidance and assistance to students with their residency applications, resulting in positive outcomes.
HOW DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR TEACHING SERVICES?
Usually, my price is between $30 to $40 per hour based on personalized needs. For students who need significant help, I usually suggest they purchase a packet of either 10, 15, or 20 lessons at a time.
CAN I ONLY TAKE STEP 3 IN RESIDENCY?
No, you don’t have to wait for residency to take step 3. With the knowledge you have coming out of medical school and a little more preparation; you can successfully pass step 3. In addition, there is the added benefit that finishing step 3 prior to residency will allow you to put all your effort into your intern year without the added stress of studying for the exam.
HOW DOES STEP 1 BEING PASS/ FAIL AFFECT MY CHANCES OF GETTING INTO RESIDENCY?
With step 1 now presented as pass/fail, it will mean that step 2 and, in some cases, step 3 scores have to be competitive. Prior to this, step 1 was the exam which most residency programs looked at as a screening tool; for better or for worse. Now, it will be more important to become a well-rounded candidate in order to have an application that can truly stand out.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES I WILL FACE IN INTERN YEAR?
First, I would like to say that each and every one of you will encounter some difficulty in residency. There is a dream we are all sold that you have reached the holy land after you match; however enjoy this time, because your cortisol levels will never be this low again. Depending on your personality, strengths and weaknesses, everyone will encounter some issues, which is a tough pill to swallow. However, becoming familiar with the person in the mirror will allow you to quickly identify areas you need to work on, wether this is time management, patient management, writing notes or the anxiety associated with presenting to your attending. The good news is that all of these problems have solutions if one is willing to work hard enough and get help when necessary.
SHOULD I DO UNWORLD MORE THAN ONCE?
It depends on a number of factors such as why one feels they need to do this, and also how much time one has on their hands. I genuinely believe that one should just do uworld once and then go take the exam. If you know you put in all your effort into the first time doing uworld and learn from the questions, there is no need to do this question bank multiple times, unless you feel as if the first time lacked attention and structure. There is also the danger of memorizing questions so that once you do these questions the second time, you might have an inflated score.
WHAT RESOURCES SHOULD I USE FOR STEP 1, 2, and 3?
This depends on personal preference and method of studying. However, with all the products on the market, it can also become overwhelming when you have so many resources to pick from. This can be something we discuss during a call.
